This product is in open beta. It’s available for use but still in active development and may change.
You can use Zap actions while chatting to your agent or within behaviors. The agent can use these actions to complete tasks and carry out your requests.
Create an action
- From the agent Chat field, click Take action. A dialog box will open.
- Click the search field to search for and select an app, or select from the list of most popular apps.
- Select an action. If your app account has been used within Zapier Agents before, the action is ready to use.
- To change the action's fields, click the Settings icon beside its name in the message field.
- If you do not have an app account selected, a modal will open. In the Account dropdown menu, select an account to connect to.
- You can create a new connection by clicking the Settings icon within the modal.
- Fill out any other fields that may be required for the action.
- To see optional fields, click Show all options. For these fields, you can let the agent decide the content of certain fields.
- Click Save.
Private apps will not appear in the list of options for triggers and actions.
Define how the agent will use action fields
Agents can use fields in each action differently, depending on the field type.
Required fields
You must enter a value or make a selection in a required field. Required fields have the following options:
- Let your agent select a value for this field: the agent will automatically determine the best value to use for the field.
-
Set a specific value for this field: you manually select a value for the field.
- If you select this option, a new field will appear, where you can enter a value that will be used whenever the behavior runs.
Optional fields
Optional fields have the same options as required fields, and you can also select the option Do not include a value for this field.
Multiple selection fields
In multiple selection fields, you can enter more than one value or make more than one selection. Besides letting the agent select a value or setting a specific value, you can select the option Let your agent select a value from one of these choices. With this option, a dropdown menu will appear below the field, with all possible values for the field. You can then select the options you want to allow the agent to use.
Use actions in conversations
Once you set up an action, you can chat with the agent and ask it to perform any of those actions. The agent will let you know once the action is completed and what the result is.
Every time an action runs, it consumes one activity from your activity limit. You can view all past actions in the agent activity screen.
Using actions in behaviors
You can add actions to your behaviors to allow the agent to take more complex actions without your input. Learn how to create behaviors for your agents.
