If your agent is not returning the response you expected, you can troubleshoot it to make improvements.
Ask your agent for help
Your agent is capable of reviewing its own settings, so before going through the options below, ask your agent to check itself for any issues with the trigger, actions, or knowledge sources.
You can message your agent something like this:
"I did not receive my morning Slack DM with a list of meetings this morning. Can you check if there are any issues with the instructions and apps?"
The agent will then check for any errors and offer suggestions on how to fix them.
Check app connections
Periodically review the app connections the agent is using to ensure they are working properly.
You can check if anything needs to be updated by asking your agent to review all app connections for errors.
Check your browser
Some browsers automatically block trackers and cookies and may block certain essential requests from the agent. Check that you have allowed content from zapier.com in the browser you use. The way you do this depends on the browser:
Use the Activity screen to review action fields
Based on your instructions, agents can fill out both required and optional fields in your actions. If you're having trouble with a specific action, it may be that a field is not being filled out correctly. You can review an agent's activity to see what information it used in a given run.
If you find a field that was incorrectly filled out, you can change how the agent uses that field in an action.
Verify your agent is running
If you're unsure whether your agent is active, you can check the Activity tab or run the agent manually.
Check the Activity tab
- From your agent's page, click Activity at the top.
- By default, Activity shows runs from the past two days. To see older runs, click the date filter and select a wider range.
- Look for runs with a Completed status to confirm your agent has been running.
If you don't see any activity, check that:
- Your agent is published.
- Your trigger is configured correctly.
- Any trigger events have occurred (for app triggers).
Run your agent manually
To confirm your agent works:
- Click the Run button in the upper-right corner of your agent's page.
- The agent will execute using your current configuration.
- Check the Activity tab to see the run result.
This is useful for testing On Demand agents or verifying your instructions work as expected.
Symptom
The Run button in the upper-right corner of your agent's page is greyed out and cannot be clicked.
Causes
- Your agent has not been published yet.
- Your agent is currently running (a run is in progress).
- You've reached your activity limit.
How to fix it
- Check if your agent shows "Not published" in the status. If so, click Publish to activate it.
- If a run is in progress, wait for it to complete. Check the Activity tab for the current status.
- If you've reached your activity limit, upgrade your plan or wait until your billing cycle resets.
Add alternative instructions
If you find an issue related to an exception you did not expect, you can add instructions that tell the agent how to handle exceptions. This way, it will know how to react and can let you know if any issues arise.
Your agent has the following instructions:
"Get all leads received the day before from Facebook Leads and allocate them evenly between two salespeople: Jana and Sara. Send each a Slack message with the lead's contact information.”
To avoid uncertainty on days when there are no leads, you can include alternative actions. For example:
"If there are no new leads since the previous day, send a message to both salespeople and to myself in Slack, letting us know nothing new came through.”
Provide feedback and get help
Submit a feature request, provide feedback on existing features, or get help from the Zapier Agents team. You can also discuss Agents with other users on Zapier's Early Access Program Slack.
