How to get started with Jira Software Server on Zapier

Jira Software Server and Zapier connect to automate issue tracking. You can trigger workflows when new issues are created and create or update issues automatically.

Prerequisites

To use the Jira Software Server app on Zapier, you must have:

  • A self-hosted Jira Software Server instance running version 6 or higher.
  • Full administrator permissions (Jira System administrators or Jira administrators global permission) along with API access enabled for your user account. 
  • Valid Jira Software Server username and password for basic authentication (Single sign-on is not supported). 
  • If using Google account login with two-factor authentication, you'll need your email address and an API token instead of your password. 
  • Network configuration to allow incoming connections from Zapier's IP addresses (AWS us-east-1 region) or allowlist the User-Agent header "Zapier" in your firewall settings.
  • User permissions to access the specific Jira projects you want to use in your Zapier integrations.

Connect Jira Software Server to Zapier

To create an app connection to Jira Software Server on Zapier:

  • Go to the Apps page.
  • Click + Add connection.
  • A new dialog box will appear. Search for and select Jira Software Server.
  • Click Add connection.
  • A Connect an Account page will open in a browser tab or window.
  • Complete the following fields:
    • Server URL: Enter your Jira Software Server instance URL.
    • Username: Enter your Jira Software Server username.
    • Password: Enter your Jira Software Server password.
  • Click Yes, Continue to Jira Software Server.

Your Jira Software Server account is now successfully connected to Zapier.

  • Find User - Find a user by name.
  • Find Issue - Searches for an issue, either using the issue's key, or its summary.
Actions
  • Add Watcher to Issue - Adds a user to the issue's watcher list.
  • Create Issue - Create a new issue, select your own project and issue type.
  • API Request (Beta) - This is an advanced action which makes a raw HTTP request that includes this integration's authentication.
  • Attach File to Issue - Attaches a file to an existing (or newly created) Jira issue.
  • Update Issue - Updates an existing issue.

Limitations

  • Single sign-on (SSO) is not supported for authentication.
  • Requires Jira Software Server version 6 or higher.
  • Custom fields may not be consistently returned for a project due to a known Jira bug.
  • Zapier's IP address may need to be added to Jira's allowlist to prevent connection errors.
