Google Sheets: values sent to the incorrect columns

Symptoms

Your Zap is sending data to the wrong columns in your spreadsheet.

Causes

This can happen if you insert, delete, or move columns in your spreadsheet. Your Zap identifies where to send data based on the column position. If you insert, delete, or move columns, and that adjusts the position of the column you’re trying to send data to, the Zap will continue to send data to the original column location.

If you set up your Zap to send data to column C, then delete column B, column C will replace the original column B, becoming the new column B. What was column D will become the new column C and data will be sent there instead.

How to fix it

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  • Go to your Zaps.
  • Open your affected Zap.
  • Select the Google Sheets step that is erroring.
  • At the bottom of the Action section, click Refresh fields. This will load any changes you’ve made to your columns.
  • Double check that all fields are properly mapped.
  • In the upper right, click the switch to turn the Zap off.
  • If the Google Sheet step has fields mapped to other steps, ensure that all fields in those steps are also properly mapped.
  • Once you’re done editing the Zap, click Publish.
