The Zapier Chrome extension lets you create, send and retrieve information, and run Zaps right from your browser.
At this time, the Zapier extension is only available on the Google Chrome browser.
1. Install the Zapier Chrome extension
- Go to the Zapier Chrome extension page in the Chrome web store.
- In the upper right, click Add to Chrome.
- In the dialog box, click Add extension.
2. Pin the extension to your Chrome toolbar
- In your Chrome browser, click the extensions icon in the toolbar.
- In the dropdown menu, click the pin icon next to the Zapier extension.
The Zapier Chrome extension will now appear on your Chrome toolbar.
3. Create a Zap with the Zapier Chrome extension trigger
After you install the extension, create a new Zap.
- In your Chrome browser, click the Zapier extension icon in the toolbar.
- Click Create Zap.
4. Optional: Set up your input fields
- Name the input field(s) that you want to appear in the Zapier Chrome extension.
- To add more fields, click the next field that will appear once you fill the first one.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to test your trigger.
- Click Continue.
You can continue to set up your Zap by adding an action and turn your Zap on when you're done.
5. Optional: Add a Reply to Chrome action
The Reply to Chrome action displays a message in the Zapier Chrome extension when the Zap runs. It can include data from previous steps and formatting with simple markdown for bold text, italic text, and links.
- In the Zap editor, click the Action step, or click the plus icon + to add an action to your Zap.
- Search for and select Zapier Chrome extension.
- Click the Event dropdown menu and select Reply to Chrome.
- Click Continue.
- In the Action section:
- Click the Message Title field and enter a message title.
- Click the Message Details field and enter a message.
6. Run your Zap with the Zapier Chrome extension
To run a Zap with a Zapier Chrome extension trigger:
- In your Chrome browser, click the Zapier extension icon in the toolbar.
- Select the Zap you want to run and fill in any available input fields.
- Click Send.
- The Reply to Chrome action will display a message in the Zapier Chrome extension.
- To edit a Zap, click the pencil icon next to the Send button. This will bring you directly to the Zap in the editor.
When the Zap runs, the trigger will return the following metadata that can be used in action steps:
- The title and URL of the page in the active browser tab.
- The trigger timestamp
- The email address of the user who triggered the Zap
7. Get Zap suggestions for apps you use
Based on your browser history, the Zapier Chrome extension can suggest Zaps for the apps you use the most. To do this, the extension requires additional permissions:
- In your Chrome browser, click the Zapier extension icon in the toolbar.
- Click the Suggestions tab.
- In the Permission needed section, click Allow access.
As you work in Chrome, the Zapier Chrome extension will identify apps you use the most and suggest Zaps to automate tasks with those apps.
8. Switch between your Zapier accounts
To switch between your personal, Teams or Companies accounts:
- In your Chrome browser, click the Zapier extension icon in the toolbar.
- Click your Zapier profile avatar image.
- Select your other Zapier account.
