ServiceNow and Zapier connect to automate IT service management. You can trigger workflows when new records are created and create or update records in tables.
Prerequisites
To use the ServiceNow app on Zapier, you must have:
- A paid ServiceNow subscription plan.
- If connecting using OAuth, a ServiceNow administrator must create an application registry for Zapier.
Connect ServiceNow to Zapier
OAuth
Before you connect to ServiceNow, your administrator must set up your ServiceNow environment.
To create an app connection to ServiceNow on Zapier:
- Go to the Apps page.
- Click + Add connection.
- A new dialog box will appear. Search for and select ServiceNow.
- Click Add connection.
- A Connect an Account page will open in a browser tab or window.
- Complete the following fields:
- Instance URL: Enter your ServiceNow instance URL (e.g., https://yourinstance.service-now.com).
- (Optional) Ask your ServiceNow administrator to provide these client credentials values needed for these fields:
- Client ID: Enter your ServiceNow Client ID.
- Client Secret: Enter your ServiceNow Client Secret.
- Click Yes, Continue to ServiceNow.
- Log into ServiceNow to authenticate.
- Grant Zapier permission to access your account if prompted to.
Your ServiceNow account is now successfully connected to Zapier.
Basis authentication
To create an app connection to ServiceNow on Zapier:
- Go to the Apps page.
- Click + Add connection.
- A new dialog box will appear. Search for and select ServiceNow.
- Click Add connection.
- A Connect an Account page will open in a browser tab or window.
- Complete the following fields:
- Instance URL: Enter your ServiceNow instance URL (e.g., https://yourinstance.service-now.com).
- Username: Enter your ServiceNow username.
- Password: Enter your ServiceNow password.
- Click Yes, Continue to ServiceNow.
Your ServiceNow account is now successfully connected to Zapier.

Limitations
- API rate limits apply. ServiceNow enforces rate limits to prevent excessive inbound REST API requests, with rules that limit the number of requests processed per hour. Rate limit rules may not take effect for up to 30 seconds as each node maintains a count per user.
- Rate limits can be configured per user or role. You can create rules to limit requests for specific users, users with specific roles, or all users, and these limits are maintained per user across nodes.
