Tools are missing in your AI client when using Zapier MCP

If you have added tools to your Zapier MCP server but they do not appear in your AI client, your client may be using a cached tool list, or the tools may not be configured correctly. This article covers how to refresh the tool list and verify your setup.

Symptom

You added tools to your MCP server, but they do not appear in your AI client.

Causes

  • Your AI client cached an older tool list and needs a manual refresh.
  • The tools are not configured correctly on your server.
  • An app connection has expired.
  • Your server URL is incorrect in your AI client's configuration.

How to fix it

  1. Refresh your client's tool list. Some clients cache the tool list and need a manual refresh:
    • In ChatGPT: go to Connector Settings, select your Zapier connector, and select Refresh.
    • In Claude Desktop: restart the application.
    • In Cursor or VS Code: reload the window or restart the editor.
    • In other AI clients: check the client's documentation for how to refresh the MCP tool list.
  2. Check that your tools are configured correctly. Go to the Zapier MCP dashboard, select your server, and check that the tools appear on the Configure tab.
  3. Check your app connection. If a tool shows an alert icon beside its name, select the menu icon beside the app name and select Update authentication to fix the connection.
  4. Verify your server URL. Confirm the URL in your AI client matches the one shown on the Connect tab in the Zapier MCP dashboard.
