Other Zapier products that use AI, such as AI by Zapier, are not covered by this feature.

Note

If you need to route AI inference through your own provider for AI by Zapier or other products, contact your technical account manager or account team for help.

Why connect your own AI model provider?

Organizations with strict security, compliance, or governance requirements often need AI requests to route through approved cloud providers. Connecting your own AI model provider addresses this by routing AI inference from supported Zapier products through your existing cloud infrastructure.

  • Security and compliance: Route AI requests through a provider your organization has already approved. This avoids the need for additional vendor security reviews that can delay AI adoption.
  • Governance: Meet your organization's requirements while keeping Zapier's AI-powered features enabled across your account.

How it works

Admins, super admins, or the owner of your Zapier account can connect your company's AI model providers in the Admin Center. When you connect your cloud provider credentials in Zapier, Zapier stores them securely and encrypts them at rest and in transit.

After connecting your AI model provider, AI inference from supported products routes through your cloud provider instead of Zapier's built-in models. The following providers and models are supported:

Cloud provider Supported AI models
AWS Bedrock Claude, Cohere

This feature does not change how you are billed for tasks by Zapier. Your inference provider bills you directly for any tokens generated using your connected model.

Choosing your configuration

When you connect your own AI model provider, you have two options:

Configuration How it works Best for
Your provider only All AI inference for supported products goes through your cloud provider. If your provider is unavailable, AI features will not work until your provider recovers. Organizations that require a full guarantee that inference for covered products routes through their approved provider.
Your provider with Zapier as fallback AI inference routes through your cloud provider. If your provider is unavailable for any reason, Zapier's built-in models handle requests until your provider recovers. Organizations that want their preferred provider but also need maximum uptime and reliability.

You can switch between these configurations or revert to Zapier's built-in models at any time.

Note

After an admin connects your AI model provider, team members do not need to take any action. AI-powered features continue to work as expected. In Zapier Agents, an info icon appears above the Instructions to follow prompt box and above the chat input box in the preview panel to indicate that your connected AI model provider is active.

Limitations

  • Available on the Zapier Enterprise plan only.
  • Only admins, super admins, and the owner of your Zapier account can configure your AI model provider.
  • Configuration applies to the entire account. Individual users cannot set their own model preferences.
  • Only applies to Zapier Agents and Knowledge by Zapier. Other Zapier products that use AI are not covered.
  • AWS Bedrock is the only supported cloud provider.
  • Only Claude and Cohere models are supported.
Example

Your company uses AWS for its cloud infrastructure and has an existing AWS contract with Claude models enabled through Amazon Bedrock. Your security team requires all AI workloads to route through approved vendors.

Your Zapier admin connects the company's AWS Bedrock account as an AI model provider in the Admin Center. After that, whenever your team members use Zapier Agents or Knowledge by Zapier, AI inference routes through your company's own AWS Bedrock account, meeting your security team's requirements.
