When you create an agent in Zapier Agents, you must publish it before it can run. Publishing creates a version of your agent that is active and ready to automate tasks. To continue making changes to your agent, create a new draft so you can edit without affecting the published version.
Publish an agent
Before an agent can run, you must publish it. To publish an agent:
- From the Zapier Agents home, select your agent or add a new one.
- Make any changes to your agent's instructions, triggers, or tools.
- Click Publish in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Your agent is now active and will run based on the selected trigger.
When you publish an agent, it becomes active immediately. Ensure that you test your agent before publishing.
Work with drafts
Once you publish an agent, its instructions and tools cannot be edited. To make changes to a published agent, you must create a draft. Drafts create a new version of the same agent and allow you to:
- Make and test changes without affecting your live agent.
- Test how the agent will behave with the new configuration.
Create a new draft
- From the Zapier Agents home, select your agent.
- Click Create new draft.
The new draft will have a label indicating the version number, such as v3. Any changes are automatically saved in your draft.
Publish draft changes
To apply your changes to the live agent, from your agent's Configure screen, click Publish. The agent will now run using the updated configuration.
Agent status and publishing
Your agent's current status appears in the agents list, in the Status column.
- Published: The agent is active and using the version number that appears on the status label.
- Not published: The agent has not yet been published.
These statuses are different from activity running statuses.
