Zapier Canvas lets you create automated workflows for your business in one click with its Get a system recommendation feature. This article explains how to create effective prompts to make the most of this feature.

Using AI in Canvas, you can turn your instructions (the prompt) into a complete blueprint of an automated workflow. You can access this feature on the Canvas home.
What is a prompt?
In the context of artificial intelligence, prompting is asking the AI to do something. How you ask and what kind of information you provide influence the effectiveness of the outcome.
Write effective prompts
Zapier Canvas’ recommendations work well with very clear requests that:
- Give the AI a broader explanation of the expected end result.
- Offer further details of the most important information or steps within that system.
ExampleIf you want the AI to create a lead management system, you can request it using the following prompt:
I need a system to manage leads for my sales team. I want to track leads, assign them to sales reps, and see the status of each lead.
The first sentence is your broader explanation of the end result: what the system will do and who will use it. The second sentence gives details about specific information that the system must handle, and how it'll be used.
Here are some more examples of prompts you can use to get a good recommendation:
- Recommend a simple CRM system for managing my customers. I want to track customer details, interactions, and sales.
- Create an order form for my website. This should collect customer information, products, and payment details.
- I want an internal request portal for my team. I will collect requests, assign them to specific teams, track the status of each request, and update the user throughout the process.
If you have specific apps you already use and want the system to include, make sure to add those to the prompt. If you're looking for inspiration, use only the tool (CRM or form, for example) and let Canvas AI suggest a suitable app.
Make further improvements
Creating a prompt that matches your needs may require some iterations of the instructions. Make as many changes as you need to get the AI to generate the best assets and steps for your use case.
