OpenAI is deprecating the Assistants API. Zapier has deprecated all ChatGPT (OpenAI) actions that use it. On August 26, 2026, Zaps using these actions will stop working. If your Zaps use any of the affected actions, review or update them before that date.
What's changing
The following ChatGPT (OpenAI) actions are deprecated and hidden in the Zap editor:

- Upload File (when used with assistants)

- Find or Create Assistant

- List Assistant Files
These actions are no longer available when creating new Zaps. Existing Zaps that use them will continue to run until August 26, 2026, after which they will stop working.
What Zapier is doing
Zapier will automatically migrate Zaps that use Conversation With Assistant (Legacy) to the new Conversation action (powered by the OpenAI Responses API). This automatic migration applies only to Zaps that use Conversation With Assistant (Legacy).
Migrated Zaps are left turned off so you can review them first. For each migrated Zap, confirm the Conversation action is configured correctly, remap fields in later steps if needed, then turn the Zap back on.
NoteOther deprecated actions (Create Assistant, Find Assistant, Upload File, etc.) will not be automatically migrated. You must manually update Zaps that use these actions before August 26, 2026.
Find your affected Zaps
- Go to your Zaps.
- In the search or filter, select ChatGPT.
- Open each Zap and check if any action matches the deprecated actions listed above.
What to do next
What you need to do depends on the action:
- Conversation With Assistant (Legacy): No manual replacement needed. Zapier migrates these Zaps to the Conversation action automatically (refer to What Zapier is doing). Review each migrated Zap and turn it back on.
- Create Assistant, Upload File, Find Assistant, Find or Create Assistant: These have no direct replacement. Rebuild the workflow using current ChatGPT (OpenAI) actions, or redesign it.
Recommended actions
- Use Conversation for back-and-forth conversations with memory, file search, web search, and MCP tool support.
- Use Send Prompt for simple, one-off prompts that do not need memory.
After rebuilding, remap fields in later steps if needed, then test and publish your Zap.
